This artwork continues the artist's interest in the physical manifestation of information, in particular various strategies of blocking the message of textual information to consider its physical presence in new ways. This particular work suggests a way of thinking through text as a tactile experience.
Fitzmaurice's regular use of language as a material in its own right, in found, recycled signage, moveable type and other letterforms, here features sculptural letterforms physically compressed in a manner that resembles the squeezing of data, whilst also coming to resemble totemic vertical constructs, each of which slows the viewer's reading.
