Molly Thomson's Untitled (Serviceable Objects) are a series of sculptural assemblages which use painting's materials, including wood, filler and acrylic paint, to show compression and objecthood. Where painting is often stretched to expand across a wall or surface, here Thomson describes the condensing of the work into a small space. A series of works which continue the artist's interest in painting's contingency or being in the world, the six interrelated but unique works each stretches upwards using door-springs, metal brackets, castors and plastic feet to stand and describe forms of movement or fixity.
